This is scene is where Marcus has the dream of a guy in a mask suddenly approaching him then stabbing him. After conducting some research I learned that the typical non-diegetic sound used in a horror film are sounds that start of quit then gradually gets louder when the tension builds up. I went on youtube to browse some sound effects that can be used for this scene.
Music whilst Marcus attempts to complete his work
In this scene I want to import the exact music that Marcus listening through his headphones. This will be upbeat rap as this is the stereotypical music that a character like Marcus will be listening to. i will be using sound cloud to search for rap music to ensure that it isn't copyright. the use of R&B music will also release tension as prior to the scene are establishing shots of the the empty isolated college.
Sound Motifs
Whilst conducting my research I came across sound motifs and I noticed that they are used in a numerous of horror films. A sound effect or combination of sound effects that are associated with a particular character, setting, situation or idea through the film. I think it will be very effective if a sound effect is played evertime the guy in the mask appears or is about to appear - this will create a sense of foreshadowing so the audience are prepared. A sound motif that has influenced me is the sound motif from Jaws. This sound effect was heard every time JAWS was visible.
